Integral Perspective in the Ecovillage and Permaculture Certificate Program
This conceptual framework for the EPCP program is based largely on the integral theory of the philosopher Ken Wilber and associates. This integral approach aims to include "the most truths from the most perspectives". This "all quadrant/all level" map asks us to include in our inquiry "body, mind, and spirit as they manifest in self, culture, and nature". While permaculture is by it's very nature an integrative approach, a standard permaculture design course emphasizes body and mind in nature, and a little bit of body and mind in self and culture. With Lost Valley's emphasis on community and personal growth and the added length of the program, we can offer greater integration of more of those aspects.
In terms of looking specifically at integral theory, we will have a very brief overview of integral theory early in the course for everyone, and beyond that we will have optional discussion sessions for those who are particularly interested. These conversations will look at the relationship between what we are learning in the program and subjects related to integral theory, such as spiral dynamics, "second tier" ecovillages, mythic regression in ecological circles, and various stages of conciousness.
Each participant will have the option to decide to attend or not attend any particular integral discussion session at the time of that discussion. Attending these sessions is not expected for receiving the certificate.
