EARTHWORM

(Music: BLACKBIRD, Lennon-McCartney) (info./disclaimers) (glossary) (index) (gardening guide)

Earthworms working in your garden soil
Contribute to a rich ecology
A harmony
Farming microorganisms too small for our eyes

Earthworms working in your garden soil
Keep all things in balance perfectly
It's home you see
Beneficial microbe populations stay healthy

Earthworms are wise
Earthworms are wise
Wiser by far than you or I

Earthworms are wise
Earthworms are wise
Wiser by far than you or I

Earthworms working in your garden soil
Aerate and enhance fertility
Make it easy
For plant roots to go down and find the sustenance they need
For plant roots to go down and find the sustenance they need
For plant roots to go down and find the sustenance they need

Comments: The Beetless have a knack for summarizing the contents of lengthy scientific treatises in just a few lines, without substantial loss of material. This song exemplifies this knack, though the Beetless themselves urge their fans to read the books and have the experiences they sing about. "This is just a ditty," Pear has cautioned, "a starting place." We think he's being modest. Their Indian friend Uday Bhawalker helped start them on the "earthworm path." When circumstances allow for it, vermiculture with earthworms, directly in the garden soil, is thought to be superior in many ways to above-ground manure-worm vermiculture in bins. The internationally-distributed Worm Digest, published by Beetless friends, discusses the latest developments in both techniques.
