I'VE GOT A SEEDLING

(Music: I'VE GOT A FEELING, Lennon-McCartney) (info./disclaimers) (glossary) (index) (gardening guide)

I've got a seedling, a seedling that's inside
Oh yeah, oh yeah (that's right)
It's getting big now, it's starting to have pride
Oh no, no -- oh no
Oh no, yeah, yeah!
I've got a seedling, yeah

This seedling tells me, it's tired of being soft
Oh yeah, (yeah) oh yeah
It's tired of shelter, it wants to harden off
Oh no, oh no
Oh no, yeah, yeah!
I've got a seedling, yeah
I've got a seedling

I'll bring it outside of the greenhouse for now
Maybe take it in if the night is kinda cold
Bring it out tomorrow, in a few days back-and-forthing will be through

(Ooo) I've got a seedling that's aching for the ground
Oh yeah, oh yeah (oh yeah)
Its pot's too small now, its roots are curling round
Oh no, oh no (oh no)
Oh no -- no, no!
I'll plant that seedling, yeah (yeah)

Root crops had a fairly hard year
Flowers had a pretty good time
Vinefruits ripened like a sweet dream
On account of all the sunshine
Oh yeah (oh yeah), oh yeah, oh yeah

Leaf crops had a pretty good year
Grains experienced a blowdown
Seedcrops couldn't keep their stalks up (no)
Early plantings nearly all drowned, oh yeah

Root crops had a fairly good year (I've got a seedling)
Flowers had a pretty hard time (a seedling I can't hide, oh no)
Vinefruits molded like a bad dream (oh no)
On account of lack of sunshine

Grain crops had a pretty good year (I've got a seedling)
Leaves got weedy and were hoed down (that's reaching for the sky, oh yeah)
Seedcrops nearly kept their stalks up (oh yeah yeah yeah)
Early plantings had a rebound, oh yeah

I've got a seedling (oh yeah)
I've got a seedling (oh yeah)
I've got a seedling, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Comments: Personal gardening songs are a Beetless trademark. Here the plant's dilemna becomes the gardener's dilemna, the plant's desire inseparable from the gardener's desire to satisfy it. We sense that the plant will repay the gardener's solicitude many times over. Yet we are reminded that, as in life, nothing is predictable, and results are always different.
