PLEASE WEED ME

(Music: PLEASE PLEASE ME, Lennon-McCartney) (info./disclaimers) (glossary) (index) (gardening guide)

Last night I said these words to my garden
I don't know how I left the kindergarten
Come on, come on, come on, come on
Please weed me, oh yeah, like I weed you

There's so much worthless stuff inside me
The valuable stuff can barely find me
Come on, come on, come on, come on
Please weed me, oh yeah, like I weed you

*My garden said to me, I hear you
But I should make this very clear to you
Some weeds -- are good -- when they're un- -- derstood
So please weed me with care, and I'll weed you

Weeds can be good compost-makin's
Or they can keep the soil from leaving garden beds (from garden beds)
They can be delicious too
Better than other vegetables for you
They condition soil
Good insects like 'em too

So please just selectively weed me
Give plants room but please don't clean-slate me
As for weeds -- in you -- they may be
va- -- luable too
Please weed me with care, and I'll weed you

Oh yeah, most weeds are friendly too
Oh yeah, just watch the things they do
Weed me, and I'll weed you

Comments: *"My garden said to me" is another "extra" verse.
The Beetless attempt to keep their soil protected and growing with cover-crops or "living mulches" whenever not occupied by planted vegetables, and weeds often serve this function. Once again in this song our four lads have trouble distinguishing between themselves and their garden. All for the better, we say. We learn a little about weeding too.
