PREPPING DAY

(Music: YESTERDAY, Lennon-McCartney) (info./disclaimers) (glossary) (index) (gardening guide)

Prepping day
I was making Equisetum spray
Gathering materials in a special way
Oh I remember prepping day

Biodynamically
We were talking about unity
Amongst the parts of the farm family
And balance, health, and compost tea

Why we used yarrow
I don't know, but that's the way
Manure stuffed in a horn
Chamomile and silica spray -- ay -- ay

Oh prepping day
We stirred 500 in a special way
We talked about what Rudolph Steiner'd say
And stopped all work when the calendar showed "gray"

Why we ate so much
I don't know, we got carried away
Our roots and fruits just taste too good
Next time we'll sow them on a leaf-only day -- ay -- ay

Oh prepping day
I don't know why this song came out this way
Some laughing dancing cosmic force is at play
But I know devas beat chemicals any day

Mmm mmm mmm -- prepping day

Comments: This one received mixed reviews in the Biodynamic community. Pear himself was disturbed by it, as it implied less respect for Biodynamics that he had originally intended. This practical-spiritual approach to organic gardening and farming grew from the work of philosopher Rudolph Steiner, who gave a series of eight influential agricultural lectures early this century. Compost tea, prepared by soaking finished compost in a barrel of water, is used as a liquid fertilizer. "500" refers to one of the nine basic Biodynamic preparations, which are applied to compost piles or directly to fields. Equisetum, yarrow, manure, chamomile, and silica are all used in the preparation of these "preps." The Biodynamic calendar specifies certain "gray" days when no work with plants should be done, due to unfavorable planetary and stellar alignments. Devas are believed to be plant spirits. Food at Biodynamic meetings is notoriously delicious and abundant.
