TWELVE MONTHS A YEAR

(Music: EIGHT DAYS A WEEK) (info./disclaimers) (glossary) (index) (gardening guide)

I'm a year-round garden
Yes you know it's true
And since I'm a year-round garden
You're never short of food

Hoe me, weed me
Harvest me, seed me
You'll always find something to eat here
Twelve months a year

In spring you start your transplants
Put peas right in the ground
And spuds and beans and squash and corn
'Fore summer comes around

Dig me, feed me
Water me, weed me
You'll always find something to do here
Twelve months a year

Twelve months a year
I grow food
Twelve months a year
I ask for just a little care

Summer's quite abundant
Fruit's ripest in the fall
But brassicas thrive in winter
When garlic and leeks are tall

Rake me, seed me
Mulch me, weed me
You'll always find something to plant here
Twelve months a year

Twelve months a year
I grow food
Twelve months a year
I ask for just a little care

I'd die in colder climates
But it's much milder here
I'll trade you vegetables for love
All seasons of the year

Hoe me, feed me
Harvest me, seed me
You'll always find something to eat here
Twelve months a year
Twelve months a year
Twelve months a year

Comments: With its mild winters and pleasant summers, the Pacific Northwest is particularly hospitable to year-round gardens. Though the main growing season, spring-fall, requires nearly-constant presence, the slower winter season does allow extended absence for gardeners who'd rather be either warmer or colder for a while.
