Children's Program Intern
We are in the research and design phase of developing an alternative learning center at Lost Valley that will cater to the children who live in our intentional community and eventually offer an invitation to families in the surrounding area.
During this first phase we are seeking 1 full time (30 hours/week) intern to share leadership of a program for the children who reside at Lost Valley. Currently there are six children ranging in age from 5 to 11 who are vibrant, unique life learners that embody a genuine desire to be supported in their discovery of world citizenship in a paradigm of sustainability. This would include crafting, facilitating, and organizing experiential projects with the children after school, assisting in developing curriculum, researching similar programs, and acquiring funding.
This is a wonderful opportunity for an individual with a background in early childhood education who is interested in exploring the integration of learning and unlearning methodologies of education in a community setting.
The person we are looking for must love to spend their time with children, have direct experience working with children, use creative ways to assist children to understand their affect on the world around them, be compassionate and capable of setting boundaries, can follow children's inclinations, be spontaneous, bring out a child's natural curiosity, support the innate wisdom in each child, support their pursuit of a spiritual path by modeling and guidance, able to mediate using techniques such as Non-Violent Communication, encourage the children to contribute by fostering appropriate responsibilities, effectively communicate with other program coordinators and interns, have good organizational skills, and a desire to experience community living.
An ideal candidate would have a working knowledge of Maria Montessori's educational philosophy and materials.
