Community Support Internship

Purpose: The Community Support Intern helps with the coordination of activities, events and practices that support and develop the intentional community at Lost Valley. This intern will work closely with the Community Coordinator to assist visitors, guests and potential residents in learning about our community. They will also help with communication and coordination of community events, committees and resident responsibilities.


Internship responsibilities and duties:

  • Serve as assistant to the Community Coordinator

  • Be centrally involved in creating and improving the organizational systems and structures necessary for the operation of the community

  • Attend meetings and serve as scribe/recorder of actions taken and decisions made, as requested

  • Develop and carry out individual projects that enhance community life at LV

  • Other job-related duties as they arise

  • Commit to working 30 hours per week in this internship, plus up to 10 additional hours of community service time (a requirement of all interns)

  • 10 of the 30 weekly work hours may involve temporary reassignment to cover priority community needs, e.g., conference support, facilities maintenance, etc.


Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, good listener;

  • A desire to learn about and take a leadership role in community life;

  • Strong time management skills;

  • Interest in organizational issues and community administration;

  • Experience with facilitation and mediation;

  • Ability to work in a group setting as well as independently

  • Experience with customer service a must.  Events management, and/or property management experience a big plus


Specific Duties:

Correspond via Email and phone with people wishing to visit Lost Valley

Assist with coordination and hosting of Community Experience Weeks and Visitor Days

Host weekly community cleaning parties

Maintain and monitor community chore system

Assist with research and policy development with regard to community governance

Assist in processing residential applications and lease agreements

Attend community governance and other residential meetings

 

Internship Period: May through August 2008, with possibility of extension
