Lost Valley Kitchen Manager Job Description
Goals
Manage the conference center kitchen in its mission to provide quality meals for residents, students and retreat center guests.
Duties
• Works Monday through Friday, work on weekends may sometimes be required.
- Works closely with community garden to ensure produce needs are met.
• Maintains inventory of kitchen supplies and food. Does weekly ordering and pick up of all supplies and food needed.
• Trains & oversees kitchen staff, including interns
• Interviews paid and intern kitchen staff candidates
• Plans conference menus
• Coordinates daily task list of prep work (including stocking, cleaning, organizing, making stock, dressings, condiments, and other kitchen staples)
• Maintains the Lost Valley commissary, including ordering food and supplies, receiving and filling orders, and updating and distributing a weekly price list.
• Reports all invoices and spending to bookkeeper. Oversee kitchen expense budget.
• Be available to residential community, guests, students, and visitors to Lost Valley to answer questions and properly orient people with kitchen procedures.
• Acts as relief staff person for kitchen team positions when vacation time is taken.
• Maintains a system for hearing & addressing community's needs regarding food & the kitchens
• Other duties as appropriate or necessary to achieve stated goals of the position
Minimum Qualifications
• Oregon Driver license (or ability to obtain one) and a clean driving record
• Oregon Food Handler's License (or ability to obtain one)
• Experience working in a commercial kitchen, preferably in a managerial capacity
• Good interpersonal skills and team-oriented attitude
• Ability to multi-task effectively
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in Vegetarian, Vegan, or Natural Cookery
• Two years of experience in a restaurant or food service setting
• One year of experience managing a commercial kitchen
• Experience cooking for large groups is preferred
• Experience with ordering, stocking, and inventory
Status
• Full-Time (approx. 35 hrs. per week), overtime exempt, salaried position
• Reports to the Conference and Retreat Center Director
Compensation
• Starting pay is $1100 per month salary with possible bonuses
• 10 hours of vacation leave for each month worked
• Discount on rent for Lost Valley on-site housing
