Kitchen interns assist in kitchen and food coordination for our busy community and conference center, including: meal preparation for large groups, stocking food and kitchen supplies, food inventory and reporting, ordering and receiving, creating conference menus, coordinating with community's garden to integrate on-site food production, directing hygiene and food preservation efforts, and managing cooking schedules.
We have three internships available in our kitchen, each with a different focus:
1. Community Kitchen Intern: specializes in coordination between the kitchen and our residential community. Internship offered year-round, as available.
2. Conference Kitchen Intern: manages planning and kitchen coordination for weekend conferences. Internship offered February through November, as available.
3. Ecovillage and Permaculture Program Kitchen Intern: supports the kitchen during our summer and fall educational programs. Internship runs June through October.
Please note that while we always prepare and serve vegetarian and/or vegan options for our community and conference center meals, we also regularly utilize organic eggs, cheese and animal milks. Some members of our community are not vegetarian and fish or meat dishes may occasionally be provided at meals alongside our standard vegetarian fare. Excellent service in fulfilling our conference guests requests is paramount to us, and sometimes includes preparation of cheese, eggs and/or fish for meals.
We are committed to using only free-range, organic, and hormone-free or wild animal products. Our kitchen team is working hard to establish relationships with local producers, and some of our interns have even started micro-enterprise making goat yogurt and cheeses with milk from a neighboring farm.
Working in our kitchen is a great way to explore a bio-regional approach to food cultivation, and it's a lot of fun!
