Our Ecovillage and Permaculture Certificate Programs (Summer session: June 16-Aug. 8, Fall session: September 29-October 24) offer internships in program administration, land management, and kitchen support. Administrative and land management applicants should have a proven knowledge of Permaculture principles, and demonstrated project management skills. Kitchen support positions require prior experience in cooking for large groups.
Our educational and internship programs are aimed at empowering people with practical skills, awareness, and the confidence to live lives that are consistent with their values. Interns will be given opportunities to take part in some segments of the Ecovillage and Permaculture Certificate Program offered during the internship. Additionally, interns who are a good match and interested in being at Lost Valley for a longer time frame could move into longer internships, or community membership/staff positions, as available.

Educational Program Administrative Assistant (April through August, and/or September through October, 2008):
Works in coordination with Ecovillage and Permaculture Certificate Programs assisting with daily office tasks, preparing and distributing outreach materials, and communicating/coordinating with potential and enrolled participants, as well as course instructors. Includes opportunities to get involved in curriculum development and program planning as well as some hands-on land management projects. Possibilities for grant writing and development. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in eventually creating their own educational program or otherwise developing skills and knowledge in the field of experiential sustainability education.
Basic knowledge and interest in sustainable living, ecological design, and/or Permaculture a must. Permaculture Design Certificate strongly preferred. Prior experience in educational settings desirable. Experience working in office/admin settings, familiarity, comfort, and friendly attitude in email, phone, and in-person communications with course participants and instructors is essential. Experience with word processing and basic spreadsheets required. Page layout skills highly preferred.
Summer program assistant internship is April through August. Fall program internship is September through October. For continuity, we prefer a candidate who can stay April through October.
Kitchen Intern (June through August and/or Sept. through October, 2008):
Supports our Ecovillage and Permaculture programs through coordinating and providing nourishing vegetarian meals for participants and instructors. Includes food ordering and stocking. Qualifications include prior cooking experience for groups, ability to hold multiple tasks and maintain a sunny early-morning disposition!
Summer program internship is June through August. Fall program internship is September through October. We strongly prefer someone who can stay with us June through October!
Land and Permaculture Intern:
Works in coordination with our land steward and Permaculture teacher, Rick Valley, designing and implementing land management activities including: orchard maintenance, eco-forestry, water conservation, and food production. Works to support the Ecovillage and Permaculture Certificate Programs through site preparations and guiding students in hands-on projects. This is a perfect opportunity for someone with a start in Permaculture or land management who is interested in furthering their skills to teach Permaculture.
