Nature Notes excerpt (April 4, 2006)

Progress on the ground at the Nature Center has been rapid. By the time of our April 16 tours, more than 100 plant species identification signs will have been erected along our trails, in addition to signs guiding visitors along the Creek Trail, Thimbleberry Trail, Pine Trail, Fir Trail, Cedar Trail, Elderberry Trail, Madrone Trail, and Pond Trail. We’re still working on a trail map, and brochures, booklets, and resident species lists will follow. We’ll also be scheduling walks, talks, and workshops with local naturalists as the season unfolds–again, the best way to keep up with those will be through our e-newsletter or on our website. The botanical mania has spilled over into our vegetable gardens as well, where we’ve prepared more than 100 vegetable and “weed” identification signs.

This morning (April 4) marked the return of the violet green swallows. Trilliums are blooming prolifically in our woods, and the creek restoration area is teeming with new plant life. Please come experience it!
