LUCKY STIFFS, THEIR LAND IS PAID

(Music: LOVELY RITA, Lennon-McCartney) (info./disclaimers [0]) (glossary [0]) (index [0]) (gardening guide [0])

Aah!
Lucky stiffs, their land is paid
Lucky stiffs, their land is paid

Aah!
Lucky stiffs, their land is paid
How would they make it elsewise?
They'd be on the brink financially just like me

But when I think about the problem
It's not the difference in inheritance
It's our dominant false economy

Robbing Paula to pay Peter
This generation's an inheritance cheater
Spending what we got so there'll be nothing when we're through

Lucky stiffs, their land is paid
May I inquire discreetly
Do you have rich parents or did you win the lottery?

We don't pay for land destruction
Wiped out cultures, polluted water
Ozone and soil disappearing fast

Try to work with Mother Nature
And you may well end up a pauper
If you put on those farming shoes

Oh, lucky stiffs, their land is paid
Now they just have expenses
Like in the old days, living's almost free

Lucky stiffs, their land is paid
Lucky stiffs, their land is paid
Lucky stiffs, their land is paid
Lucky stiffs, their land is paid

Comments: The Beetless rapidly transcend jealousy and covetousness, because they see the larger economic picture in which we are all disadvantaged by "our dominant false economy." Their more fortunate friends in the farming community are just that -- "lucky stiffs." The tone is almost celebratory, against the bleak backdrop of global ruin.
