Accommodations, Food, Housing, and Facilities

Summer Program Accomodations

Course participants for the summer program will have a tent space where our beautiful meadow borders forests. [If you do not have access to camping equipment or have disability that impedes camping, please contact us about other arrangements.]

Participants will have access to many of Lost Valley's community spaces, including the kitchen, bathrooms and showers, our main lodge, and the eco-resource and community libraries. There is also a fully equipped outdoor kitchen, solar shower and bathtub, and outdoor "hang out" rooms for use in this area.

Fall and Winter Accomodations

Because of the cooler weather, course participants in the fall and winter courses will have a private room in our dorm, and access to bathrooms there (though camping will still be available for those who prefer the crisp valley air).

For All Programs

We have an Eco-Resource Room that is available primarily for participants in the Ecovillage and Permaculture program. It includes a library with many titles related to the subject areas of the program, video capability and collection of educational videos related to the program, high speed internet access with two computers for participant use and ethernet and wireless access for laptops.

Recreational facilities/opportunities at Lost Valley include hiking trails, berry picking, community bikes, swimming hole, hot tub, sauna, beautiful stargazing, musical performances, dance parties and many group outings, including trips to hot springs!

Food

Healthful, organic food will be provided. Lost Valley prepares breakfast, lunch, and dinner every weekday. These are communal meals where participants will share space with members and interns. Course participants will be expected to participate in one cook and one clean shift per week. This helps course participants to integrate into the community and also provides education in the rich relationship between food preparation and sustainability.

For mornings and weekends, course participants will have access to Lost Valley community food to prepare on their own accord. A portion of the community's food is grown on-site and the rest is purchased through CSAs, our local food cooperative and other Eugene businesses. Purchased food is always organic and vegetarian, and mostly local. We do our best to accommodate special dietary needs and a separate kitchen with a refrigerator will be available for course participants to store and prepare personal food, including non-vegetarian food, if desired.
